BRILLIANT! (by Amanda-45) |
So I'm at home, flipping channels one night, and I come across this man wearing heels and makeup, standing in front of a colored background on HBO. Naturally, I did a double-take and decided I'd watch for a little while. I didn't change the channel until he was finished, it was so incredibly hilarious. The next time it was on, I made sure to tape it so I could watch it over and over again, and it has remained one of my favorite things to watch. During the first couple of minutes, you can tell that the audience isn't quite sure what to think, but he quickly wins them over with <more> |
Worth reading + Worth Watching (by katlb97) |
I love Eddie Izzard. I think this is awesome, and the other television specials should be looked at as well. He has a good book "Dress To Kill" out to buy as well, which I think people should read. I loved that this program won an Emmy, and anyone who likes history will probably get a laugh from Eddie. Enjoy : |
Tremendous! (by MALPRACTICE) |
I had no idea that Mr. Izzard was so damn funny, It really boggles the mind that he is not more well known! His command over the crowd and his timing is perfect. The monologue about Star Wars will kill ya too! If only all the stand up performers had his wit... |
Sometimes funny, sometimes annoying (by Quinoa1984) |
Watching this HBO comedy special on TV, I found that I understood much of the comedy, and this is from someone who is not a hardcore fan of Monty Python and British comedy in general. But having said that did this special keep me in perfect attention and laughter, no. When you watch Eddie Izzard on the stage, he is in drag and makeup, and when you see that, it might be a little hard to understand when he starts to rant off on U.S. History. Still, there were many parts of the special that had me laughing or at the least thinking, which is what comedy should do most of the time. But the overall <more> |
John Cleese says he's the funniest man in England! (by AlabamaWorley1971) |
Excellent stuff. See the world's only Executive Transvestite. I'd do underwater sexy-sexy with him any old time. |
Izzard at his best (by CharltonBoy) |
This is another gem of a stand up show from Eddie Izzard . You cannot fail to laugh at the wide range of topics he talks about. He even takes the piss out of his American audiance at times and most of them didnt even realise it! A must see for anybody who likes comedians. 9 out of 10. |
Mr Stevens (by tedg) |
As a break from long form narrative, I have been watching a lot of films of standup comics. It is one of the most puzzling things I have done recently. Nothing tells you more in a short time about someone than what they find funny. Part of that is the structure of the humor, the core of what I've been studying. But it is worth remarking that some component is what we want to believe is funny. Some of that is physical group dynamics; we join in groups in order to laugh. A related affiliation is incorporated into the humor -- race and class comedians exploit this. Sometimes you leave just <more> |
Eddie at his almost best (by alden1010) |
I never meant to become an addict, but somehow the compulsive need to quote Eddie Izzard developed gradually after seeing Dress to Kill for the first time a few years ago. There is a cult following of Mr. Izzard, and it is really distressing to see GenXers quoting his every joke to death. It's not only distressing--but it's annoying, too. The problem is, I'm as guilty as anybody else. He sucks you in. You watch it once and you laugh. You watch it again and you nod and laugh hysterically. The third, fourth, fifth time you watch it, you start saying his jokes along with him--and you <more> |
