A wonderful symbolic socio-religious/political look at America today (by cekadah) |
Just discovered this movie and decided to watch as it is listed as a 'comedy'. And a very dark comedy it is! There are some really disturbingly funny scenes, but I found the balance of the film to be a sarcastically allegorical comment on life in America. Why the previous reviewers missed this is a surprise! Throughout the entire story director Wayne Kramer has offered to the viewer symbolic remarks on religion, politics, and economic life in the American laboring society.First we see the pawn shop - in America everything is a commodity that can be sold and bought - nothing has real <more> |
Incredible Movie (by solidabs) |
Haven't seen a flick that was decent in a long time. Great casting. Walker sucked except when he wore the clown mask. But the rest was awesome. Anybody giving this movie anything less then a 7 is a County Carnival Clown. At first watching Paul Walker Act was bugging the crap out of me. I was caught u watching him not keep up with the tweeker facial expressions he was using and then not using. He would start acting like normal guy while he is supposed to be tweaking. But anyway I hung in there and was a little freaked out by Matt Dillons aging appearance, but damn if he didn't do a <more> |
OMG!!! Disgustingly Delitefull with a sprinkle of Crazy scattered throughout the experience. (by denis_leboeuf) |
I believe I just testified to the birth of a new cult movie. The film had all the trademarks of Tarantino and it was not....WHAT AN EPIC FILM. I was stunned throughout this entire film. It's gore in places blew my mind. The competition was who can be the craziest person in the story. Matt Dillon did not disappoint. Stumbling across his missing wife's wedding band in a pawn shop, the ring he had got made with his and her insignia. This "FAITAL" discovery brings out the crazy in Matt's character. He becomes less of a humane and more of a monster as the film progresses. <more> |

Never Heard Of It But Glad I Discovered It (by roseybaby63-59-43149) |
I never heard of this movie before. I don't remember ever seeing it advertised. I don't even know if it ran in U.S. Theaters. I was looking through movies on Demand and happened upon it. The title intrigued me. The plot sounded interesting and then I saw that Vincent D'Onofrio and Paul Walker were in it...I was hooked. I'm so glad I found this movie. I've watched it twice so far. It's an anthology movie, which is one of my favorite types of movies. Each of the three stories originate from General Lee's Pawn Shop. It's here where we're treated to the <more> |
Loved it!!!! Yep, I did!! (by stonekeeper_ever) |
5.4/10??? Come on IMDb! In a way I can understand because my friend didn't really like this movie. I LOVED IT! I bought it used at the corner videostore, never heard of it so my expectations were low not to say null. It's now in my top 5 of 2013 movies somewhere after Wolf of Wall Street. It's even in my top 50 best movies ever along with smoking aces and running scared. I loved the first part, loved even more the second, and my only negative point is Brendan Fraser, witch in my opinion kind of ruined the crazy vibe of this great movie. I am not an Elija Wood fan but he did a <more> |
Not for those with cognitive challenges (by painterdg) |
This film is a very dark comedy, and is definitely not for everyone, as may be apparent from the previous reviews. As with James Joyce's "Ulysses," director Wayne Kramer's "Pawn Shop Chronicles" follows several characters through their own adventures during a single day. Unlike Joyce's classic, this modern story takes place in a small, quirky southern American town rather than Dublin, Ireland. Still, for those of us with attention spans longer than that of the average house pet, the threads of the three stories that make up the chronicles can be seen slowly <more> |
Strange movie, but it's a good kind of strange. (by janssuh-2) |
This is the first time I write a review for a movie, not that this movie needs one. But it deserves it. Because the first time I heard of Pawn Shop Chronicles, I thought the History channel made a movie about a very bad reality series. But don't let the title fool you. This one the best triptych i ever seen. Just watch it, I'll guarantee it, you'll have great time.If you are a Pulp Fiction fan, you'll definitely appreciate this movie. Excellent and out of their "usual comfort zone" performances from some of the most under-appreciated and underestimated actors in <more> |
Disturbingly entertaining (by RevRonster) |
The critics pretty much universally panned this one but I actually dug it.The stories, although sometimes horrifying to witness, can be darkly amusing and, often, blasphemous maybe that's why people hated it . The cast is great and I really enjoyed everyone sorry ladies, Norman Reedus' part is small --also, how often are you going to see pretty boy Paul Walker as a racist moron? There was also a lot of imagery thrown in the background and in the tone of the film that I found attention grabbing.Yes, the movie can be disturbing and, at times, I wondered if I was a terrible person for <more> |
